Some people believe that to learn about other countries, they need to travel. Others argue that reading books and watching films about other countries is enough. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
MODEL ESSAY / ANSWER
The debate over whether travelling or consuming media is the best method to learn about other countries is ongoing. Proponents of travel argue that it offers an immersive experience that books and films cannot match. When one travels, they interact with the local people, culture, and environment firsthand, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the country. For instance, experiencing the bustling streets of Tokyo or the serene landscapes of New Zealand can provide insights that are difficult to capture through words or images alone.
On the other hand, advocates for learning through books and films suggest that these resources can provide comprehensive and detailed information about a country's history, culture, and societal norms without the need for physical travel. This method is not only cost-effective but also accessible to a wider audience. Books and documentaries, with their in-depth research and perspectives, can offer a broad understanding of a country, which might be challenging to achieve through short-term travel.
In my opinion, while both methods have their merits, combining them yields the best learning outcome. Travel allows for personal experiences and emotional connections, while books and films offer context and depth. By engaging with both, individuals can gain a holistic understanding of other countries, appreciating not only the surface-level experiences but also the historical and cultural depths that shape them.
