Do you agree or disagree that the increase in the use of electronic devices by children is leading to a decline in engagement with traditional leisure activities, and what solutions would you propose to address this issue?

MODEL ESSAY / ANSWER

The rise in children's use of electronic gadgets is often linked to them participating less in classic pastimes. I agree that digital devices are overshadowing traditional play, and I think a balanced approach is needed to resolve this. Engagement with devices like tablets and smartphones is soaring among youngsters, making less room for activities like board games and outdoor sports. These traditional hobbies not only provide physical exercise but also enhance social skills and creativity. For example, when kids play outside, they learn vital life skills like teamwork and resilience. Stories abound of children choosing video games over a game of tag, indicating a shift in play habits and a potential detriment to their development. A balance seems to be tilting alarmingly towards the glow of screens. On the other hand, technology isn't inherently harmful. It can be incredibly educational if used properly. The crux lies in moderation. Parents and educators can lead this charge by setting and enforcing screen time limits. Besides, reintroducing children to the joys of old-school entertainment through community events and family game nights can pique their interest in less digital entertainment. In sum, the burgeoning use of electronic devices by children is encroaching upon time usually spent on traditional leisure pursuits. The solution shouldn't be to demonize technology but to foster an environment where digital and traditional play coexist harmoniously, benefiting the development of young minds. A thoughtful mix of tech-based and classic amusement, guided by responsible adults, seems to be a promising path forward.
