MODEL ESSAY / ANSWER

In the debate over mobile phone usage in schools, one camp argues for a ban during school hours, while another defends the children's right to use their phones. In my view, a moderate approach that balances educational benefits and potential distractions is most beneficial. Supporters of banning phones claim that they are a distraction. They argue that the presence of mobile devices splits a child's attention between the lesson and the screen, potentially disrupting the learning process. For instance, a student might be tempted to text their friends or browse social media instead of listening to the teacher, undermining educational goals. This viewpoint suggests that schools should be a phone-free environment to maintain focus on academics. Conversely, those in favor of allowing phone usage highlight the advantages these devices bring to education. They assert that phones can serve as powerful learning tools, offering access to educational apps and resources that complement the curriculum. By using smartphones, students can quickly retrieve information, engage in interactive learning, and even organize their schoolwork effectively, thus supporting their academic journey. Summarizing both sides, the argument to ban phones centers on minimizing distractions while the opposing view sees mobile devices as beneficial learning aids. I believe that phones should not be entirely banned but used judiciously under teachers' guidance to enhance the educational experience. By striking a balance, we can leverage technology's potential to enrich learning while keeping students focused during school hours.
